Strong math starts with strong fundamentals. This session covers the essential building blocks that every future math class depends on. We'll work through problems together, answer your questions, and make sure you leave feeling more confident.
Session 1: Middle School Math Basics
What we'll cover
Fractions: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
Decimals: operations and converting between fractions and decimals
Multiplication fluency and mental math strategies
Order of operations (PEMDAS)
Introduction to exponents and powers
Ratios and proportions
Percentages and real-world applications
Negative numbers and the number line
Who it's for: Students heading into pre-algebra or algebra, or anyone wanting a solid refresher on the basics.
Session 2: High School Math Basics
Build the toolkit you'll use throughout high school math. This session focuses on the core algebra and geometry skills that show up again and again—from algebra to precalculus. Come ready to practice and ask questions.
Who it's for: Students entering or continuing high school math who want to start the year strong.
What we'll cover
Slope: calculating it and understanding what it represents
Graphing linear equations
Simplifying radicals and working with square roots
Quadratics: factoring and solving
Solving systems of equations
Working with the coordinate plane
Laws of exponents
Solving and graphing inequalities
Meet Your Instructor
Both sessions are led by Sam, our education lead and a quantitative economics graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder. With a strong background in applied mathematics, Sam brings clarity, patience, and real-world context to every concept—making even the trickiest topics approachable.
