Session 1: Middle School Math Basics

Saturday, August 1, 2pm-5pm

Strong math starts with strong fundamentals. This session covers the essential building blocks that every future math class depends on. We'll work through problems together, answer your questions, and make sure you leave feeling more confident.

What we'll cover:

  • Fractions: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing

  • Decimals: operations and converting between fractions and decimals

  • Multiplication fluency and mental math strategies

  • Order of operations (PEMDAS)

  • Introduction to exponents and powers

  • Ratios and proportions

  • Percentages and real-world applications

  • Negative numbers and the number line

Who it's for: Students heading into pre-algebra or algebra, or anyone wanting a solid refresher on the basics.

Meet Your Instructor

Both sessions are led by Sam, our education lead and a quantitative economics graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder. With a strong background in applied mathematics, Sam brings clarity, patience, and real-world context to every concept—making even the trickiest topics approachable.
